Businesses, bands, and other groups can now connect with 40 million Google+ users.

Google launched pages for businesses last week. They touted notable guinea pigs like Pepsi, Angry Birds, and The Muppets.  The service includes familiar features from the original program like circles, steam, photos and the googled version of the like, +1.

Creating a page isn’t any more difficult than adding your name to Facebook and Google offers unique ways to interact with clients, co-workers and future customers.

Getting Started

Log into your personal Google + page and find the “Create a Google+” page on the side of your stream, click!

There are several different categories to choose from depending on your group’s identification. In the case of Nuanced Media, we identified as a company and from there was able to customize our category and page title. Adding your website link will increase your SEO and make your page more eligible for one of Google+ Page’s more unique features, Direct Connect.

Direct Connect

allows searchers to type in [+] Page Name and directly connect to their Google+ page. In a matter of clicks, a fan of the X-Games will be able to incorporate their page into their circle, peruse their photos,  and read the latest news from their Stream.

At the moment, it’s only available for select users but adding your URL to your page and a Google+ badge to your site will increase your chances of being linked with Direct Connect according to Google.

On the same page, select the age appropriate for your business. After your click, your basic page is now online, now it’s time to personalize the page!

Profile Basics:

Upload a photo to represent your business, make sure you’ve named it appropriately for maximum

SEO potential.  Show off your logo or storefront, use an image that your customers will recognize.

Pick the 10 words that best describe your company and create a catchy accurate tagline. In our case, we went with,  “A website design, online marketing, and business consulting firm. ” Pepsi and Angry Birds opted for more casual taglines, “Where there’s music, there’s Pepsi.” And Ca-Caw!” respectively.

Tell People!

By spreading your page to users whom you are already connected with you can start a solid fan base. Their +1 will give other users confidence in your products and services. Reach out to customers, past and present, and ask them to add your page to their circles.

Get active. Pages with frequent, but not obnoxious updates are usually the most popular. Dan Zarrel

la, self-proclaimed Social Media Scientist, found that for Facebook, “Pages that posted less than once a day and found that the number of likes was highest for pages that posted around once every other day.” One can assume that Google+ users will adopt a similar attitude.
